Sew a quick and easy quilt using jelly roll strips with this collection of twenty free and easy jelly roll quilt patterns gathered from all over the web!
And just in case you're not familiar with the term "jelly roll," it's a collection of long fabric strips rolled into a round bundle that resembles a jelly roll cake. And each of the strips in the bundle measures two and a half inches wide by forty to forty-five inches long. Moda Fabrics is the company that coined the term "jelly roll," so just be aware that other fabric makers may use a different term.
And of course the great thing about using any pre-cut fabric for a quilt is that it saves you the time and energy it would take to cut the fabric yourself. Plus, you'll be assured that your fabric pieces have been cut accurately. And because jelly roll strips are cut with pinked edges, and therefore tend to produce a lot of lint, you may want to run a lint roller down the sides of your bundle to collect any excess fuzz to keep it from getting all over everything.
And if you choose to wash your strips before using them (some quilters do this, other think it's unnecessary), place them in a laundry bag or pillowcase to prevent tangling. It's also a good idea to press your jelly roll strips before using them.
And of course, you can leave your jelly roll strips long, cut them into shorter rectangles, squares, or even triangles. And because most of these designs involve sewing only simple shapes like squares and rectangles, and because most of the fabric cutting has been done for you, any project on these pages would likely make an great first quilt for a beginner to sew.
