Here you'll find a variety of penguin designs, with printable templates included, to be sewn from woven fabric, fur, or felt. And one of the fabric designs would be a great way to use any small fabric scraps you may have leftover from other sewing projects. Or as a way to use any quilting pre-cuts you may have in your fabric stash, like jelly rolls or fat quarters.
If you're a beginner and would like to try sewing one of these designs, consider hand sewing it, which will give you more control over those smaller fabric pieces that need to be sewn together precisely, than machine sewing would.
And if you'll be sewing your penguin from fur, you may find the following tips helpful: For easier and more accurate cutting, cut your pattern templates from lightweight cardboard instead of paper. Then lay out your fur fabric with the fur side down and trace around your pattern pieces to mark the cutting lines onto your fabric. And cut into the fabric backing only, not into the fur itself. And if your fur has a nap to it, remember to lay out your pattern pieces so the the fur in your finished plush will run in the same direction.
If you'll be sewing your penguin plush from felt, consider using wool felt instead of the acrylic felt found in most craft stores. Your finished softie will likely look better, wear better, and won't pill the way acrylic felt can. Also, felt can have a slight nap to it (you may be able to see the nap by holding the felt at the right angle). Therefore, remember to cut your fabric pieces so that any nap will be running in the same direction in your finished item.
And if your penguin softie will be for a baby or small child, just remember not to embellish it with anything that could come off and become a choking hazard (like buttons).
